About Us

A collage of a hurricane, hurricane damage in a residential neighborhood, and an active fire in Greg

The San Patricio County Office of Emergency Management is dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the environment through a comprehensive, all-hazards approach grounded in the four pillars of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Office works year-round to reduce risks through hazard mitigation planning and community risk reduction efforts; strengthen readiness through training, exercises, and public outreach; coordinate effective response operations during emergencies and disasters; and support timely, resilient recovery for individuals, businesses, and communities. In partnership with local jurisdictions, state and federal agencies, private sector partners, and volunteer organizations, San Patricio County OEM is committed to building a safer, stronger, and more resilient community for all who live, work, and visit the county.

Mitigation

Mitigation involves sustained actions to reduce or eliminate long-term risks to people and property, such as the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), flood plain management, drainage improvements, building codes, and hazard mitigation planning to lessen the impact of disasters, including hurricanes and flooding.

Preparedness

Preparedness focuses on planning, training, exercises, and public education efforts that ensure the community is ready for emergencies—such as developing emergency plans, conducting drills, maintaining alert notification systems, and encouraging residents to build disaster supply kits.

Response

Response includes the immediate actions taken during and after a disaster to save lives and protect property, including activating the Emergency Operations Center, coordinating first responders, issuing public warnings, and supporting evacuations.
